Open-source licenses

Open-source components remain governed by their respective licenses. Those licenses take precedence over our Terms of Service for those components. The notices below cover our website libraries, fonts, image processing, and components used in earlier versions of the site.

Website libraries

Our website uses React, Next.js, and other open-source libraries. The full notices include copyright statements, license texts, and notices for libraries bundled within these packages.

3Dmol.js 2.5.5

Molecule blocks use 3Dmol.js, copyright © University of Pittsburgh and contributors, under BSD-3-Clause. For its dual-licensed GLmol portions, we use the MIT option.

Fonts and external libraries

Inter and Space Grotesk use the SIL Open Font License. Document image processing uses OpenCV under Apache-2.0 and ONNX Runtime under MIT, with additional notices for their dependencies. Our historical JSXGraph integration uses its MIT license option.

Font and external library licenses and notices

Source code: OpenCV, ONNX Runtime 1.19.2, and JSXGraph.

Server image processing

Next.js uses sharp and libvips to process images on our servers. Sharp uses Apache-2.0; its prebuilt libvips package and included libraries carry LGPL and other licenses.

Components used in earlier versions

Jmol / JSmol

Earlier molecular viewers used JSmol, licensed under LGPL-2.1-or-later. The library's source code is available under that license.

Eclipse Layout Kernel (ELK)

Earlier graph layouts used elkjs 0.9.3, 0.10.0, and 0.10.2. ELK and its JavaScript integration are available as source code under the Eclipse Public License 2.0.
